Post Funeral ServicesOur "industry" is spoken of as the Funeral Service Industry...and that's exactly what we provide services (along with certain necessary products.)
Consider us as your first General Resource for information.
After we have provided those services that you originally contracted for, please consider us as your first resource when you need additional assistance in settling your affairs. Our history and experience allows us to be able to provide a wide variety of assistance and advise to you after the necessary funeral ceremonies and services have been completed. We are not the end-all of service providers and we are not prepared to provide all the professional services that you may need (we are not licensed to practice law nor to give legal advise) but we will gladly open our history of experience to help you find complete the myriad of daunting tasks that you still face.Professional Advise.
It is not our intention to give legal nor financial advise..that is not where our expertise lies. You may want to meet with a lawyer to discuss details about such matters as starting probate proceedings with the Surrogate in the county where the decedent resided and you should be prepared to provide the lawyer with the original of the Last Will and Testament of the decedent and several certified copies of the Death Certificate. If you need more certified copies, we can get them for you or we can direct you how to procure them yourself. You will need to review your financial affairs and you may need to discuss these concerns with a professional advisor, such as an attorney-at-law, an accountant or CPA or another financial advisor that may be available through your bank, your insurance company or your brokerage house.
POST FUNERAL CONSIDERATIONS - Here are some other things that you may need to do after the funeral.
You will want to send thank you notes to acknowledge receipt of flowers, memorial donations, food sent to your home and other jobs that friends and relatives did for you. We can provide you with personalized printed formal acknowledgement cards along with a wide variety of printed personal notes and stationery.
You may want to complete or place a new Memorial Plot Monument, Grave Marker or Bronze Plaque in a cemetery or at another appropriate location. We are prepared to discuss the many types and varieties of bronze and granite cemetery memorials and can arrange all the details of ordering and installing a memorial in all local cemeteries.
Ultimately, you will want to close all jointly held financial accounts and open new accounts in your name with your own tax identification number (usually your SS Number). For estate planning concerns, you may want to include another family member on any new accounts as a joint owner.
You will need to cancel direct deposit retirement benefit payments that have been coming for the decedent...and change yours to your new account. Continuing deposits to the decedent's account that you are not entitled to CAN be blocked by your bank.
You will want to reestablish title of your Safe Deposit Box if you have one
You will need to reestablish all outstanding mortgages and personal notes and apply for all credit life insurance benefits, if any exist.
You will need to notify all your insurance companies of the death...and file claims when applicable, for:
Life Insurance benefits (will be paid to the beneficiary of record on file with the life insurance company. [Whole Life - Term Life - Group Life
Final medical insurance claims
Disability claims, if aoolicable
Travel or Accidental death claims, if applicable
Final pension benefits and any ongoing survivor's pension or death benefits
and you should review your Home Owners Insurance and Automobile Insurance coverage.

Workmens Compensation benefits, if applicable
If the decedent was a member of the N. J. Exempt Fireman's Association, a large benefit is payable to the surviving next-of-kin. We are prepared to help you apply for this benefit through the decedent's volunteer fire department.
You should notify all credit and debit card companies of the death, especially if credit life insurance may pay off any unpaid balances. You should actively cancel all individually held cards of the decedent and change all jointly held accounts.
Soon, you will need to make a new Last Will and Testament for yourself.
You may need to notify your accountant or tax preparer and provide him with:
A certified copy of the death certificate
Your previously filed tax returns and current income and dividend statements
If you have one, you should notify your stockbroker to:
Change the ownership of jointly owned stocks

Division of Motor Vehicles to transfer the title of all registered vehicles, mobile homes and boats that were registered solely or jointly in the decedents name. No NJ Sales Tax is payable when the registration is transferred due to the death of the current owner.
